Values

Over
Politics

Not poll-driven. Values-driven.

If you’re considering voting for me, know that you may disagree with me on some issues. But please know that I will always try to understand your perspectives and values and am open to changing my mind. That’s the only way I’ve ever led my life and that’s what will enable me to work with people to win on behalf of West Virginia.

More Affordable

Working-class people should not have to be buried in paperwork to get the benefits they deserve.

The Big Beautiful Bill was designed to reduce the amount the nation spent on SNAP and Medicaid by burying people who get these benefits in paperwork. These policies are mean-spirited and cruel, and by overturning them, I’ll fight to help support you. Similarly, tariffs are designed to raise revenue by making consumers pay more. Just think that if your life is harder, that’s hardships by design.

This is what I’ll advocate for instead. We’ll reverse cuts to SNAP in the Big Terrible Bill and ensure that public benefits support working-class people. You shouldn’t have to choose between going to work and visiting the DHHR office, and the moment you get a raise shouldn’t be when you lose all your benefits.

Public benefits should help people who are trying to improve their lives and their families’ lives by investing in education and earning a promotion. Current benefit cliffs do the exact opposite.

But that’s not all.

  • We must raise the minimum wage to a living wage.

  • We must end tariffs that have driven costs up of groceries.

  • We must have more investments and tax incentives to build housing so that housing becomes more affordable for West Virginians and all people.

  • We must have a more balanced energy system to drive down your heating bills.

  • We must support unions and employees’ abilities to organize and negotiate better wages and work conditions.

  • Lastly, if you’re a nurse, an educator, a first responder, or a police officer who serves our communities, state, and country, you should be entitled to more tangible support from our country through student loan forgiveness, higher salaries, and greater support.

My story vs. Riley Moore’s story

Fellow West Virginians, I know how challenging this time is for you because I’ve lived it. I have had jobs where I’ve been on SNAP, we received TANF when I was young, and I’ve accompanied people to the DHHR office and often seen a system that’s treated them like criminals rather than the working poor.  They need a system that empowers them towards success.

I’m the first person - Democrat or Republican -  running for this seat in over a decade who has experienced these realities firsthand, and I will use those experiences as fuel to deliver something better.

Your life is Moore Costly today because the Big Beautiful Bill aimed to reduce benefits by cutting funds for services and burying low-income people in paperwork and bureaucracy. While Riley Moore was deciding to vote for that bill, he was also the lead champion of tariffs that drove up your grocery prices.

You deserve better from your representative, and after Election Day, you’ll have better.

More United

We must invest in education, healthcare, and public safety.

We have made education, healthcare, and public safety cash cows for big pharma, big tech, and other special interests. Let’s make them more human.

In West Virginia, we care about each other, and how we lift these three pillars is how we show it.

Here’s what we’ll change. It’s unacceptable to make teachers, healthcare workers, and police officers our enemies. We will find ways to support them through community policing investments, additional resources for schools, recognition and support for teachers, and more time for nurses to be with patients. We’ll pay professionals in these sectors who get strong, positive reviews from their communities more and promote the best to higher leadership.

My story vs. Riley Moore’s story

When I say I’ve felt the pain of what it’s like when our healthcare, education, and public safety system don’t work, I mean it literally. The night I graduated from college, I got a call from a hospital emergency room. I owed them $30K for a one-night stay the year before. Nobody should have to deal with that.

Beyond healthcare, I was a teacher and have worked in education throughout my career. I chaired the LSIC at my daughter’s school – the attacks on public schools are an attack on my daughter, her friends and my profession. And I have amazing friends who I admire for working tirelessly to make law enforcement and policing support both safety and our best values.

There are challenges within each of these sectors; I have experienced them, and I want to improve each one.

In contrast, our communities have become Moore Hollow because our member of Congress did not have the courage to stand up to Elon Musk’s DOGE cuts or to fight for budgets that strengthened Medicaid, education, and basic services. That’s what the Big Beautiful Bill did, and Moore did nothing to stop it. Instead, he cheered it.

More Livable

We must provide clean water to drink, clean air to breathe, and clean neighborhoods to live in.

Too many West Virginians don’t have the very basics to live and thrive: clean air and clean water. We can’t afford to have people and companies leave our state because of that basic reality. We lack the infrastructure that makes our communities livable and enjoyable.

West Virginia’s strength is being Wild and Wonderful, and that strength is under attack.  The infrastructure that supports clean drinking water, clean air, and the tourism industry that drives our economy is not a luxury – it’s a government responsibility, and we’re failing. I will be a fierce advocate for clean water and clean air as I believe that – beyond our people –West Virginia’s Wild and Wonderful identity is our greatest asset.

My story vs. Riley Moore’s story

If you open a water tap in communities 30 minutes from my house, you’ll get orange water. This isn’t a southern West Virginia problem - it’s a West Virginia problem. I’ve lived in three states and traveled the country. When I moved to West Virginia, I told my wife that this is inch for inch the most beautiful place in the country.

Along with our people, that beauty is our greatest strength, and it’s under attack. I’ll fight to protect it and improve it.

I’ve organized a number of community actions with the Sierra Club and other local groups to raise awareness and advocate for clean drinking water, clean air, and livable communities.

As your member of Congress, I commit to being a champion rather than the obstacle to more livable communities. Whether it’s big crypto companies, tech companies, or out-of-state polluters, our member of Congress has been Moore Corporate than almost any other. The Big Beautiful Bill he voted for gutted the public sector, and Moore did nothing as Elon Musk belittled WV workers and took their jobs. He spends little time in the state and has no connection to our public infrastructure. I will do both, and I’m looking forward to being your champion for a livable, wild, and wonderful West Virginia.

More Human

We must break the stranglehold of big tech on our lives.

There is one type of company that directly benefits from our loneliness, addictions, and divisions. It’s Big Tech.  And it’s a big part of their business models.

It’s time to say enough and to imagine and be better together. We need to be there for one another in a spirit of mutual aid, care, and human kindness.

As Big Tech’s influence over our lives only grows, I’ll ensure that AI doesn’t use human voices to take over human social-focused jobs. I’ll halt the data centers being built in communities that will only expand corporate profits at the cost of all that is good in our communities.

My story vs. Riley Moore’s story

I’m a dad of a 10-year-old girl.   And studies show that thirty percent of young girls expressed depressive thoughts in the last year, three times what it was before social media took over our lives. This is a terrifying and riveting thought.

I have family members who promote conspiracy theories, and I have friends who have gotten engulfed in the toxicity of social media and have lost their mental health and relationships. As long as these realities improve their stock prices, Big Tech doesn’t care about how divided we are as a country, your mental health or that of your loved ones.

Fighting this is personal. Fellow West Virginians, you’ve seen that we’ve become a Moore Mean society and our congressman contributes to that reality by spewing out disinformation and pouring gasoline on any culture war division he can find. He doesn’t just do that, he uses public funds to do it through mailers and other communications. He has been in lockstep with the tech companies that support our division, deregulating their industry and supporting their crazy laughable cryptocurrency agendas.

As your Representative, I promise that I’ll be a friend to you and your families and not the Big Tech industry.

More Empowering

We must take back our democracy from those who’ve used it for their own benefit.

With gerrymandered districts, elected officials have more choice in picking their voters than voters in picking their elected officials. Money is treated as speech. We don’t have choices. We can do better. We must do better.

I will be a champion in enlisting major reforms to regain our democracy. Using ranked-choice voting

  • Non-partisan election mapping

  • Transparency in fundraising

  • Cuts to super PACs/Citizens United

  • Mandating that elected officials divest their personal financial interest from anything they vote on, and

  • Advocate for a ban on paid lobbying post-election.

My story vs. Riley Moore’s story

I immigrated to the US because my family wanted to live in a democracy, and I led resistance efforts because I know freedoms aren’t guaranteed for my child or anyone else’s.

An uncle of mine, a pro-democracy student in Iran, was imprisoned as a pro-democracy student in Iran and still cannot leave the country. I know deeply that democracy needs to be secured and strengthened. I led a coalition of over 400 organizations ranging from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and the Cato Institute to the National Urban League and the National Education Association to advocate for stronger civics and history education for all K-12 and higher education students.

Making government more responsive to you is personal for me. That’s why I’ll run the most transparent, open, inclusive, and empowering campaign in West Virginia’s history. My opponent is one of the Moore Elitist elected officials you’ll find. Were you ever able to see him during the 2024 campaign or back in the district since?

Riley Moore got a job at a Democratic led lobbying firm because his aunt was a US Senator and grandfather was a Governor – no other reason. He has nothing to offer and uses Government staff to promote misinformation. He is the embodiment of an entitled political class in name, demeanor, and action.

More Fair

We must fight for a budget that supports you and your family.

For years, “budget hawks” have decried how we saddle our children and grandchildren with debt. While they cut taxes for corporations and the wealthy, they propose slashing childcare, healthcare, senior care, and infrastructure. These are essentially taxes on the poor and middle class.

We don’t hate the rich, we just think a shared sense of sacrifice is needed. We’ll pay for our vision by raising the estate tax, the luxury tax (“the yacht tax”), and adding a wealth tax. We will transfer that wealth directly to investments in childcare, medical care, and senior care. To make education fairer, we’ll end legacy systems in education that allow the wealthy to get into elite colleges without having earned their place.

Fellow West Virginians, there’ll be misinformation throughout this campaign about my positions. Let me be clear. If your family income is under $250,000, I will never raise your taxes. You don’t have to be a Democrat or Republican to know that the wealth gap is an irresponsible problem in our society.

My story vs. Riley Moore’s story

In my life, I’ve been on food stamps and welfare. Those programs serve people in a healthy society. I started my career as a political fundraiser for Senators and Congressmen before getting disillusioned with the legal corruption from the wealthy and big corporations.

This isn’t a Democrat or a Republican problem. It’s a people problem. We need to ensure the government represents people. My opponent’s record leads to Moore Disparities. He was a lobbyist before becoming an elected official and serves only lobbyists now. The Big Beautiful Bill was the biggest transfer of wealth in the nation’s history. It served the uber-wealthy, and it’s no surprise. Riley Moore’s funding primarily comes from out-of-state companies and donors.

More Free

Reassert real checks and balances in government.

Mountaineers are always free. Under the current system, they will not be.  Inevitably, they’ll be under the thumb of some ruler, Republican or Democrat. Congress needs to reassert its constitutional powers. No more kowtowing to unrestrained executives.

250 years after the signing of the US Declaration of Independence, we’ll still have No Kings in America, and America will once again become the greatest hope for democracy anywhere in the world.

I will take my oversight role as your representative seriously whether that’s our current president benefiting his businesses and accepting a $400 million jet from Qatar for his personal use or Joe Biden pardoning his son and family members for crimes they may have committed over a decade ago.

Power is about trust and honor, and it should never be used for personal benefit. I’ll advocate against unchecked power whether there’s a Democrat or Republican in the White House.

My story vs. Riley Moore’s story

I have worked my entire career to teach young people about their rights and responsibilities in Civic life. Any person in a basic civics class can know that what’s happening in our country is not right. I started our local Indivisible group to stop the rise of an unchecked kings in our society. That group started out as 20 people in the basement of a church and grew to hundreds coming to meetings and the largest two protests in Morgantown’s history.

That effort hasn’t just taken hold in Morgantown, but through leaders across the state, we find even bigger efforts in Parkersburg, Martinsburg, Wheeling, and small and large cities and towns across the district. This is my promise to you: I will fight unchecked executive action regardless of which party is in power, and I will hold open town halls where I’m accessible to you – whether you vote for me or not – throughout the state.

With our current representative, we’ll have Moore Oligarchies. Moore has done less to challenge unimpeded power than any member of Congress who’s represented this district in its history. Just remember, when Elon Musk and DOGE came for West Virginians’ jobs, taking the power of the purse from the People’s House, a pin drop made a louder noise than our representative.
